The World of Overwatch

A near-future Earth reshaped by the Omnic Crisis โ€” and the heroes who rose to defend it.

Faction
Blackwatch: The Shadow Ops
The secret, deniable side of Overwatch. Covert ops, morally grey choices, and the seeds of the organization's downfall.
Faction
Talon: The Terrorist Network
A shadowy organization that believes conflict is necessary for human evolution. Their agents include Reaper, Widowmaker, and Doomfist.
Lore
Omnics & Sentient Machines
Are omnics people? The central philosophical tension of Overwatch's universe โ€” from Zenyatta's Iris to the Shambali monks.
Timeline
Key Events Timeline
A chronological breakdown from the Omnic Crisis through the fall of Overwatch, the Null Sector uprising, and the current recall.

Know the Battleground

Every game mode has different objectives and strategies. Knowing the maps is half the battle.

๐Ÿšš
Escort (Payload)
Attack pushes the payload along a fixed track to the delivery point. Defense tries to stall until time runs out. Standing near the payload moves it faster.

Hybrid
First capture a control point to unlock the payload, then escort it to the end. Two-phase objective that shifts the flow of a match dramatically.

Control
Best-of-three. Teams fight to capture and hold a single central point until the percentage hits 100. Intense teamfight-focused rounds with no time limit.

Push
Both teams fight over a robot (TS-1) that pushes a barricade toward the enemy base. Whoever pushes the barricade furthest when time expires wins.

Flashpoint
Multiple capture points scattered across large maps. Teams race to hold 3 points first. Encourages spread positioning and flanking.

Clash
Five sequential capture points on a mirrored map. Capture the center point first, then push into enemy territory. First to 5 wins.

New to Overwatch?

Get started fast. These fundamentals will make you a better teammate from your very first match.

๐Ÿ›ก
Tank
Absorb damage and create space for your team. Tanks lead pushes and protect teammates. Great if you like being in the center of the action.
โš”๏ธ
Damage
Eliminate enemies and apply offensive pressure. Damage heroes have the most variety โ€” from snipers to brawlers. High impact but dependent on team support.
๐Ÿ’š
Support
Keep your team alive and amplify their strengths. Good supports win games quietly. Often the highest-impact role in lower ranks.
01
Play the Objective
Kills don't win games โ€” objectives do. Always ask: where do I need to be to help capture this point or escort this payload? Stay on the objective, even when it's tempting to chase kills.
02
Switch Heroes Mid-Match
Overwatch is a game of counters. If your current hero isn't working, change at any spawn. Adapting is a skill โ€” don't stay locked into one pick out of pride.
03
Stick with Your Team
Overwatch rewards group play heavily. Lone wolves get picked off. Stay close to at least one teammate, especially your support. Dying alone is the most common new-player mistake.
04
Use Ultimates as a Team
Ultimates are most powerful when combined. Communicate before using yours. A Nano Boost into a Primal Rage, or Sound Barrier covering a Dragon Blade โ€” combos win teamfights.
05
Learn One Hero Per Role
Don't try to learn 41 heroes at once. Pick one easy hero per role (Soldier: 76, Reinhardt, Mercy) and build fundamentals. Game sense carries across all heroes.
06
Use the Practice Range
The practice range lets you learn ability timings, test damage, and warm up your aim before matches. Spend 5 minutes there before competitive games.
